FAQ’s

ABOUT VINYL WRAPPING

  • Kitchen cabinet wrapping (also called vinyl wrapping or cabinet film covering) is applying a decorative adhesive film over existing cabinet surfaces (doors, drawer fronts, panels). It refreshes the look of your kitchen without needing a full renovation.

    • Cost savings — much cheaper than replacing cabinetry or doing major structural renovations.

    • Less mess and disruption — no demolition, fewer trades, less dust. Many wrap jobs can be done in 1–2 days.

    • Wide design options — you can choose from many finishes (gloss, matte, wood grain, stone, metallic, soft-touch, etc.).

    • Sustainability — preserves existing cabinetry rather than discarding it. Less waste.

    • Flat, smooth, and even surfaces work best (e.g. MDF, wood, laminate).

    • Textured surfaces (e.g. heavy wood grain, chipboard) may show imperfections through the wrap and can be more difficult.

    • Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease, residues or old peeling finishes before applying film.

    • Some films can be used on edges, curves, certain hardware, side panels etc. Depending on the film’s properties and installer skill.

  • Yes — but it depends on the style and detail. For example, shaker doors or panels with moulding/raised detail require more expertise; seams, joints, and detailing make the job more complex. It might cost more or take longer.

  • If a cupboard door, panel, or drawer front is damaged, we can usually repair it before wrapping. Minor chips, scratches, and dents can be filled and smoothed to create a clean surface for the wrap.

If the damage is too severe, we can help arrange a replacement door or panel and wrap it to match the rest of your kitchen — ensuring a consistent, seamless finish.

  • The timeframe depends on:

    • The size of the kitchen (number of doors, drawers, panels)

    • The style of doors (flat vs. decorative)

    • The condition of surfaces (whether prep work is needed)

Typical jobs take 1–3 days for an average kitchen. More complex layouts or detailed styles can take a little longer.

  • With good quality materials, proper installation, and correct care, wrapping can last 5–10 years or more in typical kitchen usage.

Our supplier CoverStyl, offers a 10 year warranty against cracking and fading for most products

    • Most good-quality films are fairly resistant to moisture and typical kitchen humidity.

    • Films can handle general heat (steam, ambient cooking heat) but are not designed for direct, prolonged exposure to heat sources (e.g. directly behind burners, open flames). Excessive heat can warp or degrade the adhesive.

    • Sharp knives, heavy impact or abrasive cleaners can damage the surface. Always follow recommended care instructions.

  • Yes — one of the advantages is removability. A well-applied film can be removed, and the original surface underneath preserved, especially if the underlying finish was in good condition initially. That said, some care is needed during removal to avoid peeling or damage.

  • Generally, no — wrapping typically involves the doors, drawer fronts and visible surfaces. Internal parts are not usually affected. However, removing hardware (handles, knobs) and possibly doors can help yield a better finish.

  • Costs vary based on:

    • Number of doors, drawers, panels to cover

    • Whether there are side panels, kickboards, plinths etc.

    • Type of finish/quality of film chosen

    • Complexity: door style, curves/mouldings, prep work required

It’s difficult to state a fixed price without assessing a specific kitchen. We can provide a quote after seeing pictures or measuring.

  • Yes, in many cases. Worktops can be wrapped with appropriate film finishes (wood effect, marble, stone etc.), but with caveats: worktops are high wear areas (cuts, heat, heavy items) so the wrap’s durability is more challenged there. Splashbacks are often okay if they are flat, clean, and properly prepared.

    • Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners. Warm soapy water is usually enough.

    • Wipe up spills quickly to avoid staining or lifting.

    • Avoid harsh chemicals (e.g. bleach, strong solvents) or abrasive scrubbers.

    • Avoid placing very hot items directly on wrapped surfaces; use trivets or protective boards.

    • Regularly check edges for lifting and, if needed, apply gentle heat to reseal.

  • We offer a 2 year warranty on installation and our manufacturer (CoverStyl) offers a 5-10 year warranty on the product. If the wrap delaminates, peels, or shows defects under normal usage, we will inspect and repair or replace as needed.

  • We have a wide variety of finishes such as:

    • Matte, gloss, satin

    • Wood grain effects (light wood, dark wood etc.)

    • Stone / marble / concrete / metallic effects

    • Soft touch / velvet / texture finishes

    • Custom colours or special effects
(Based loosely on Coverstyl’s catalogue of over 470 finishes)

    • Cleaning and degreasing surfaces

    • Possibly lightly sanding or priming if surfaces are porous, damaged or laminated to improve adhesion (primer / bonding agents exist)

    • Cutting tools, squeegee, heat gun (for edges / curves) are typical tools used by the installer.

  • You can attempt a DIY wrap, especially on flat and simple doors. However, the quality of finish will depend heavily on care, patience, and the right tools/experience. Fancier doors, moulded styles, curves, and high-traffic areas are usually better handled by a professional to ensure longevity and appearance.
